A PURPOSEFUL LIFE
Jane Victoria Hide
Hi there, fellow empty nester! If you're reading this, chances are you're in the same boat as me—figuring out this whole "empty nest" thing. But fear not, because this isn't the end of the road; it's simply the beginning of a new chapter filled with endless possibilities.
Here are seven suggestions for you. When you are intentional in your actions, you discover purpose. Take the time to reflect on these tips and think about which one will help you discover new purpose. Journal your thoughts and your journey.
1. Reflect on Your Passions
Take some time to reconnect with the things that once brought you joy; before parenthood consumed your every waking moment. You could use The Abundant Nest Journal to write your plans, thoughts and ideas moving forward.
2. Explore New Hobbies
Whether it's pottery, hiking, or learning a new language, now is the perfect time to try something new. Try this Guide - 70 Ideas for Empty Nesters to Live a Life with Purpose. A step-by-step guide to help you find your preferred activities. We'd love to hear how you go.
3. Reignite Your Career
Maybe you paused your career to focus on raising your children. Well, now's your chance to dust off that resume and reignite your professional passions, or pivot and try something new. You could also check out your local Tafe/College and see what courses they have that you find interesting. Take your passions further than just a hobby.
4. Volunteer
Giving back to your community not only feels good but also gives you a sense of purpose beyond your role as a parent. I love volunteering. You feel a sense of worth. There are so many places that would love and appreciate your time. Think about your passions and interests and head out into your community. There are so many possibilities, animal centres, childcare, aged-care, op/thrift shop, libraries...
5. Invest in Self-Care
Prioritise your physical and mental well-being by making time for exercise, meditation, or simply indulging in activities that bring you peace. This looks very different for all of us but it is crucial that you give yourself time. Time to grieve and heal. Journaling is a great way to work through your emotions. 6. Travel
When you have an empty nest, you have the freedom to explore new destinations without worrying about school schedules or soccer practices. You could literally stick a pin in a map and go there. Check out this book for some exciting adventures along the way. See BLOG POST for budget travelling tips for Empty Nesters.
7. Connect with Others
Surround yourself with friends, family, and fellow empty nesters who understand what you're going through. Sharing experiences and advice can make this transition smoother and more enjoyable. If you prefer your own company, journal. See BLOG POST for Benefits of Journaling.
So, fellow empty nesters, let's embrace this new chapter with open arms and a sense of excitement for all the adventures that lie ahead. After all, life is too short to dwell on what's behind us. Let's make the most of this next phase together!
